Established in 1954, we at Yoshida Metal Industry (YOSHIKIN) were born as a manufacturer of western tableware, which is a main industry at the Tsubame – Sanjo region in Niigata Prefecture. We have endeavored to develop technologies to process stainless steel products since the day of its establishment with our passion to “deliver high quality products to our customers” and our flexible creativity that makes the best use of inventiveness. One of the fruits of these efforts is our proud product of the “GLOBAL” series.

Back in the 1950s in Japan, most of commonly-used cooking knives were made of carbon steel, which sharpness was brilliant but it required a good maintenance to prevent getting rusty. Moreover, their wooden handles needed a regular replacement due to decay from water penetration.

It was the founder of our company Yuuzo Watanabe, who was determined to solve these structural issues of traditional knives in order to offer a high-quality knife with a new style and easy to handle for customers. Paying his focus on the features of stainless steel, which hardly becomes rotten and is uncomplicated to maintain, Watanabe successfully produced a stainless steel knife series named “Bunmei Gincho” in 1960. The product, which sharpness was as good as carbon steel knives, was the result of a tremendous amount of trials and errors he had endured. Eventually, we have found solutions to cover the weakness of wooden handles in the structures of dinner knives of western tableware. Calling on designer Komin Yamada, a stainless steel knife named “GLOBAL” series was born in 1983.

Watanabe’s determination to ‘deliver better quality products to customers’ and our creativity with free-mind, which had defied the stereotypes of traditional knives, has made it possible to produce the innovative cutlery, which was completely beyond the common sense.

The GLOBAL series has been acknowledged by people all over the world in recent years, however, it took a while for them to be accepted in Japan because of its innovative design. It was when the exclusive export department, Master Cutlery Corporation set the booth at the International Trade Fair in Frankfurt, Germany in 1988 for its first time, our products began to successfully applauded in a global scale. Since then, we have started being approved in Japan as our product received the Good Design Award in 1990 by then – Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Today, 30 years after the first release, the GLOBAL series has become loved by people in Japan and all over the world.

The founder of our company Yuuzo Watanabe successfully produced the new cutlery that had never seen in the world. In order to carry over his strong passion and the spirit of creativity, we at YOSHIKIN are enthusiastic not only in product manufacturing but also in personnel education. With our customers always in our mind, each one of us conducts product development activities. We believe these attitudes create a strong fundamental of products that customers can trust.

Now, we have conveyed a new product series called the “GLOBAL-IST”. The new series is an upgrade version of the GLOBAL series, which has been globally applauded. The GLOBAL-IST series, originally designed for ‘at-home chefs’, will surely be accepted by not only people in Japan but also in all over the world.

Cooking is not mere housework, but it is about creating a strong bond within people we love. Cooking always starts from cutting ingredients. We at YOSHIKIN, as well as our proud GLOBAL series delivers the highest level of satisfactory to each family.
